Meet Brenda Ferguson-Callaway

Hi, my name is Brenda Ferguson-Calloway. I was born and raised in Orangeburg County, SC. I live in West Columbia, South Carolina. I am married to Marion Calloway and I have two children: Michieka, aka Shieki, and Mareiko, aka Reiko. Shieki is 29 years old and Reiko is 12 years old. My son keeps me busy transporting him from one activity to another. My husband has been working in New Jersey and Connecticut area for the past 12 years.

I graduated from Hunter-Kinard High School in Norway, SC in 1978. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina in 1985. Currently I am in the midst of my last class at the University of Phoenix Online. I am majoring in Curriculum and Instruction in Computer Education.

My teaching career began in Sparta, GA which is located in Hancock County, where I taught kindergarten. I taught in Sparta for one year and I taught in Columbia County, GA for one year before moving back to South Carolina. I taught first grade for two years in Wagener, SC wich is located in Aiken County. I taught Resource for one year in Neeses, SC which is located in Orangeburg County. I taught Adult Education for three years in Columbia, SC which is located in Richland County. After many years of trying to find a fulltime teaching job near the Columbia area, I finally gave up and accepted a fulltime teaching position in Denmark South Caroline which is located in Bamberg County. In Denmark, I taught fifth grade for one year and third grade for three years. After much thought and prayer, I accepted a job as first grade teacher at a small Christian school in Cayce. I resigned at the end of my first year there in 1998. I resigned in June and my son was due to be born in July.

Currently, I am an online tutor for StudentNest.com, a church secretary at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cayce, SC, and an Avon Representative.

I have enjoyed all of the classes that I have completed thus far at the University of Phoenix in the area of Curriculum and Instruction in Computer Education. I feel that these courses have sufficiently prepared me to do all that I am qualified to do in the field of Computer Education.

My goal after obtaining my masters degree is to become an adjunct college professor.
